Dogpile - web meta-search engine which means it crawls all of the four major search engines at once compiling results into one. Serving up search results since 1996 and today the site is just the best in our opinion as it gives you everything you need in terms of a search in one place. The sites clean and quick to return what you’re looking for, also includes image, audio, video, news and classifieds search.

Bing - Microsoft's first answer to Google was Live.com, the 3rd of June 2009 bing launched, basically still Live just a new name with the same search by the looks of it, you would think with their clout finding their feet would be easy! With the release of bing it shows they are not prepared to give up and let Google take all just yet, good on them! Since Live launched search results did not get any stronger from the outset in my opinion, they need to start filtering out rubbish, duplicate results if they are to make any real impact and keep our eyes focused.

Google - the one and only, by far the most popular search engine. Searching the web, images, videos, blogs, news, maps. Combining local results with national results, on the local side of things google is becoming an interactive yellow pages with the introduction of google local and maps. The main part being the .co.uk search engine that launched back in July 2001 just under 3 years after the .com came out of beta in August 1998.

Ask - don't search, just Ask! The Ask search engine deserves a lot of credit for keeping up, every time I have looked at the Ask homepage over the past two or three years they have made considerable image improvements! The search ain't bad either and is well worth a try as an alternative the rest. A clean easy search that always lets me find what I'm looking for first time around. Ask is not full of adverts just search results 10/10, taking you to were you want to goto fast.

AlltheWeb.com - having always been a fan of the fast search provided at AlltheWeb it appears they have just gone one step further improving their search even more so since I last stopped by looking for something. Try the LiveSearch, you don't even need to click search anymore, as you type in your search term/word the fast engine cleverly works it out displaying results instantly - fantastic.

Yahoo! - the original search resource launched right back at the start of the www, at that time we also had Alta Vista which was the jewel in the crown in many people's eyes, Lycos and Excite, these days Lycos is just an advert machine and has little left of its original shell, Alta Vista holds true though and is still a very good search, along with Yahoo! all of these searches were around long before google.com came out of Beta in August 1998.

Hutsy UK - there's more to life than just the most popular engines, take Hutsy for instance! Just like Dogpile's search Hutsy compiles the major search engines results into one, the only difference between them is Hutsy's not as well known. The site has hardly any adverts, if any for that matter and provides a quick clean search. Topping this Hutsy goes the extra yard providing a news, image, article, video, job, audio and blog search, not bad! Why not give Hutsy a try and see what you think.
